FAQ for JHT❓

I’m new – where should I start?

If your newer to the space, we recommend starting with one of our Upskill Challenges (UCs). These should feel byte-sized (😉) enough to complete but have enough information to make you feel accomplished. That being said, we have beginner-level material in all types of content. You can follow along step-by-step with a video to our Hack-Alongs (HALs). Or with a little effort and time, you can learn something new with a Course! If you’re interested in CTFs and little challenges to test where you’re at, try our CTF Archives!

What do the different types of content mean?

Here at Just Hacking Training, we offer 4 types of content that you can learn from – just choose the style that works best for you!

  • Upskill Challenges – FREE, CTF-style, bite-sized lessons. These are great for beginners as they should only take 10-30 minutes of student time.
  • CTF Archives – Our CTF Archives are live, playable archives of previously held CTFs with no closing time and no scoreboard. CTFs are $20 and come with a ton of lab time. If you run out, you can always purchase more at an affordable price.
  • Courses & Paths – This is a traditional course offering which includes 4-10 hours of student time. They have quizzes and hands-on activities to benchmark your learning! Courses range from between $50 – $200 typically, but may also be part of our “Name Your Price” model. See each course for details.
  • Hack-Alongs – HALs are a structured set of chapters and lessons with virtual labs that accompany a video from any of our training developers you can follow and hack along with. These between 30 – 120 minutes of student time. HALs range from between $20 – $50 typically, but may also be part of our “Name Your Price” model. See each HAL for details.

What are credits?

Credits allow you access to our browser-based virtual lab environment on learn.justhacking.com! You are given a set amount of credits per course, hack-a-long, or CTF you enroll in. Don’t worry – you’ll get plenty of time!

How many credits do I get / how do they work?

The amount of credits you receive per enrollment is directly tied to how much RAM you are running and how much lab time you will need to complete the content. If you need 14 GB of RAM to run for your full environment, you need 14 credits per hour. We provide you with plenty of time though to complete it – double even!

Let’s say you have a 2-hour Hack-a-Long: we will give you 4 hours worth of credits to run that Hack-a-Long. If you have a 10-hour course, we will give you 20 hours worth of credits!

Where do I buy credits?

If you run out of credits, you may purchase more on the learn.justhacking.com platform on the Course Systems tab on the left.

Do I lose my credits if I don’t use them?

Of course not! Your unused credits carry over into a “bank” that you can use for any enrollment on JHT.

What if I only wish to start one of my machines at a time?

In order to start the machines, you must hit “Launch Group” and launch all machines. If you don’t want all of the machines running at once, you may stop any machine you don’t wish running manually by clicking “Power” and then “Stop”.

I need more support. Where can I speak to someone?

If you’d like to speak to a member of Just Hacking about your account or have a more specific question, you can reach us in the JH Discord. You’ll want to grab a student role, so make sure you click “Engage with the JHT Student Community”. From there, just open a ticket with us in the #jht-support channel.

We really appreciate you joining us on this journey!

Thank you,
JHT Staff
