WMD is not weapons of mass or malware destruction, but that doesn’t mean that Windows Malware Development is a skill you should ignore… and it can do plenty of damage!
Available Now Launches Friday Feb 7!
Watch a replay of the Release Party Livestream with John Hammond and course author, Dahvid Schloss, on YouTube!
Although many a criminal (and many emulated criminals AKA pentesters and red teamers) can get away with just being script kiddies, to truly be an effective red teamer, malware dev is a must! Join a prior US Special Operations Cyber Operator to learn the building blocks and techniques used in creating real-world malware variants.
In his own personable style that made him popular with the DEF CON Training crowd, Dahvid Schloss brings his experience and brilliance to the 1st of 3 courses in the Windows Malware Development (WMD) Path. With a quick introduction to C2s and shell code, you’ll jump right into Visual Studio and start coding right away! Don’t worry, expert guidance along with 3+ hours of video are provided to help you succeed. This course is a follow-along coding course. You won’t be given the code directly, and it’s encouraged that you write the code yourself while the video plays as the best way to learn is by doing.
Stay tuned as the other 2 courses in the WMD Path are already in production:
- WMD 2 – Adv Execution and Obfuscation TTPs
- WMD 3 – Dynamic Evasion Techniques

You don’t need fancy, expensive tools to get a C2 implant executed while evading antivirus. You need basic knowledge, ingenuity, and elbow grease. Where this course differs from others is its reduced need for prior knowledge, and enhanced emphasis on hands-on learning.
In this course, we don’t cut corners. You will learn by doing, not by copying and pasting! With modules and labs, you will gain the ability to deviate and improvise on your very first malware variants in C++, even if you have no prior C++ experience.
Prerequisites for WMD 1 – Malware Dev Basics and Shellcode Loaders
Although this course is at a beginner level when it comes to malware development, WMD itself is not an entry-level skill. You will be programming in C++ and Python but will not need to have experience with those languages. However, an understanding of how programming languages work (e.g., if, then, else, loops, etc.) is helpful. Being comfortable with VMs, Linux & Windows AND being able to install tools is a must.
This course gives students the option to play on their own or utilize a dedicated virtual environment. Because everything is provided for you, you need nothing other than a computer, Internet access and your brain!
